BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT WHEN COLD REPLACE BOOSTER OR CONTROLLER

Subject: BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT WHEN COLD

Model and Year: 1990-91 GEO STORM

Some 1990-91 GEO Storms built before the following listed breakpoints may receive comments of firmer brake pedal effort when cold. This typically is the first or second brake application after the vehicle has been setting overnight. In the case of the SOHC base Storm, replace the 8 inch brake booster with a 9 inch booster. (This is the same one used on the DOHC GSI). In the case of a GSI 4-speed automatic, a new transmission controller with revised shift points has been released. Breakpoints and part numbers are as follows:

Base SOHC: VIN M7540581

P/N 94480242 - 9 inch Brake Booster

GSI DOHC: VIN M7524190

Auto 4-Speed P/N 97038520 - Transmission Controller

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
