HARD START BELOW 32 DEGREES (DIAG. AND NEW CALIBRATIONS)

Subject: HARD STARTING BELOW 32 DEGREES

Model and Year: 1991 STORM WITH 1.6L ENGINE -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some 1991 GEO Storms with the SOHC engine (VIN code 6) may have difficulty starting at ambients below 32 degrees F. Symptoms may include long cranking times, start/stall, unstable idles or failure to start. If normal service procedures do not correct the condition, new calibrations with improved cold startability have been released. When using the Tech 1 tool and EEPROM Service Cartridge, TKO6030A and Date Cartridge, TKO6032 select the appropriate calibration number:

1.6L SOHC Federal With Auto Transmission - 16165819

1.6L SOHC Federal With Manual Transmission - 16165809.

The above calibrations may also be used with CAMS.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
