Removal Procedure

  1. Loosen the TV cable locknut (3) and the adjusting nut.
  2. Remove the TV cable (2) from the throttle body linkage.
  3. Remove the TV cable casing from the TV cable bracket at the throttle body.

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Remove one bolt and the TV cable retaining bracket (1) from the transmission.
  9. Remove the TV cable casing (2) from the transmission. Remove the TV cable end from the throttle valve.

    Important: Perform the next two steps for four-wheel drive vehicles equipped with the 03-72LE, 4-speed automatic transmission.

  11. Place an index mark (reference mark) (1) on the propeller shaft pinion flange and on the front differential pinion flange of the transfer case to the front differential propeller shaft.
  12. Remove the four bolts and the four nuts from the pinion flange yoke (2).
  13. Separate the pinion flange yoke (2) from the front differential pinion flange (3).
  14. Important: Removing the propeller shaft from the transfer case will result in fluid loss.

  15. Position and support the transfer case to the front differential propeller shaft away from the transmission fluid pan.

  17. Remove the transmission range switch electrical connector from the transmission range switch (1).

  19. Remove the transmission fluid pan (2) and gasket from the transmission. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .

  21. Remove the transmission valve body (14) from the transmission. Refer to Valve Body and Accumulator Pistons Removal

  22. Object Number: 166186  Size: SH
  23. Remove the TV cable (2) from the TV cable cam (3).
  24. Remove the TV cable case from the transmission.
  25. Inspect the TV cable for fraying or kinks. Replace the cable as necessary.

  27. Inspect the TV cable O-ring (1) for damage. Replace the O-ring if necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Attach the TV cable (2) to the transmission.
  2. Attach the TV cable (2) to the TV cable cam (3).

  3. Object Number: 166367  Size: MH
  4. Install the transmission valve body (14) in the transmission.

  5. Object Number: 166111  Size: SH
  6. Install the transmission range switch electrical connector to the transmission range switch (1).

  7. Object Number: 166191  Size: SH
  8. Install the transmission fluid pan (2) and gasket to the transmission. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .
  9. Important: Perform the next step for four-wheel drive vehicles equipped with the 03-72LE, 4-speed automatic transmission.

  10. Attach the pinion flange yoke (2) to the front differential pinion flange (3) aligning the index (reference marks) (1) on the pinion flange.
  11. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Secure the pinion flange yoke (2) with four bolts and nuts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the propeller shaft bolts and nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb in).

  14. Install the TV cable casing (2) into the TV cable bracket (1) at the throttle body.

  16. Install the TV cable (1) to the throttle body linkage.

  18. Connect the negative battery cable.
