Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Place index marks on the propeller shaft pinion flange yolk and the differential pinion flange to ensure correct installation.
- Remove the following items from the vehicle:
• | The rear propeller shaft. |
- Remove the extension case oil seal (1) from the extension case using the J 23129
and the J 6125-B
.
- Inspect the seal surface of the extension case for cracks or porosity. Replace the extension case if cracks or porosity is present.
Installation Procedure
- Install the new extension case oil seal (1) into the extension case using a J 37750
and a hammer.
- Apply J 36850
to the new extension case oil seal lip.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the rear propeller shaft into the vehicle aligning the index marks made during the removal procedure. Secure the rear propeller shaft with the four bolts, and the four nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the rear propeller shaft bolts and nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
