LOCK CYLINDER CODING
The following Lock Cylinder Coding information should replace what is printed on pages 10-1-1 and 10-1-2 of Section 10 for the 1989 Tracker Service Manual (ST-377-89).
One key is used for ignition, door, instrument panel compartment and rear door lock cylinder. The keys are cut both edges to make them reversible.
Key identification is obtained from the five digit number stamped on the key tag. From this key tag, the key code cutting combination can be determined.
If the original key is available, the key code cutting combination can be determined by laying the key on the diagram shown.
* Determine the cutting code from the code list or the key code diagram.
* Cut a blank key to the proper level for eight tumbler positions.
* Check key operation in the lock cylinder.
Lock cylinders are available from CANSPO as a complete assembly with key.
Tumblers are not available from CANSPO if repairs to the tumblers are needed, replace it with a new lock cylinder.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
