SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE SEC. 6A OIL PAN SEALING PROCEDURES

Subject: OIL PAN SEALANT

Model and Year: 1989-91 GEO TRACKER

Oil Pan Sealant

This bulletin amends the "Oil Pan and Oil Pump Strainer" procedure and Figure 49 found in Engine Mechanical (Section 6A) of the 1989 GEO Tracker Service Manual (ST377-89) and Engine Mechanical (Section 6A1) of the 1990 and 1991 GEO Tracker Service Manuals (ST377-90 and ST377-91, respectively).

The GEO Tracker does not use a gasket between the oil pan and the cylinder block; therefore, GM P/N 1050026 gasket paste should not be applied to the oil pan mating surface. Before installing the oil pan to the cylinder block, apply GM P/N 1052914 silicone sealant, or equivalent, to the oil pan mating surface in a continuous bead (Figure 49).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
