Removal Procedure
- Remove the manual transmission assembly from the vehicle. Refer to
Transaxle Assembly Removal
in Manual Transmission.
- Remove the clutch release shaft return spring (4) from the clutch release shaft fork (3).
- Remove the clutch release bearing pin (1) from the clutch release shaft fork (3) and the clutch release bearing (2) from the transmission input shaft.
Important: DO NOT clean the clutch release bearing with degreaser or solvents. Cleaning the clutch release bearing with degreaser or solvents will damage the bearing seals. Use a clean, dry solvent-free cloth.
- Clean the clutch release bearing (2) with a clean, dry solvent-free cloth.
- Inspect the clutch release bearing (2) for external damage and smooth rotation. If external damage exists or the bearing does not operate smoothly, replace the clutch release bearing.
Installation Procedure
- Apply a thin coat of wheel bearing lubricant GM P/N 1051344, or the equivalent, to the transmission input shaft.
- Install the clutch release bearing (2) onto the transmission input shaft; secure the clutch release bearing (2) to
the clutch release shaft fork (3) with the clutch release bearing pin (1).
- Install the clutch release shaft return spring (4) to the clutch release shaft fork (3).
- Install the manual transmission assembly into the vehicle. Refer to
Transaxle Assembly Installation
in Manual Transmission.
