Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Object Number: 787371  Size: SH
  3. Remove the passenger insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the brake release lever from the instrument panel (I/P).

  5. Object Number: 386625  Size: SH
  6. Remove the screws from the data link connector.
  7. Remove the data link connector from the I/P.

  8. Object Number: 816362  Size: SH
  9. Remove the I/P center console. Refer to Console Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 832824  Size: SH
  11. Remove the I/P center trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .

  12. Object Number: 816365  Size: SH
  13. Remove the left and right I/P side trim.

  14. Object Number: 816332  Size: SH
  15. Remove the assist handle. Refer to Instrument Panel Assist Handle Replacement .

  17. Remove the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .

  19. Remove the drivers knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement .

  21. Remove the left accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side .

  23. Remove the right accessory trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side .

  25. Remove the I/P air bag module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  26. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  28. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

  30. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .

  32. Remove both windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.

  34. Remove the radio from center stack. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.

  36. Remove the HVAC control. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.

  38. Remove the Onstar® module from center stack. Refer to OnStar Button Assembly Replacement in Cellular Communication.

  40. Remove the traction control, air ride switch module assembly.

  41. Object Number: 815899  Size: SH
  42. Remove the transfer case control switch module. Refer to Transfer Case Shift Control Module Replacement in Transfer Case - BW 4484.

  44. Remove the rear wiper switch. Refer to Rear Window Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.

  46. Remove headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  47. Remove the upper HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts. Refer to Air Temperature Sensor Replacement - Upper Right Side and Air Temperature Sensor Replacement - Upper Left Side in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  48. Remove the lower HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts. Refer to Air Temperature Sensor Replacement - Lower Left Side and Air Temperature Sensor Replacement - Lower Right Side in HVAC Systems - Automatic.

  50. Remove the nut from the I/P carrier center support.
  51. Remove the upper I/P carrier bolts.
  52. Remove the drivers and passenger side I/P carrier bolts.
  53. Disconnect the electrical connections from the body control module (BCM) to the body harness.
  54. Remove the wiring harnesses through the openings in the I/P retainer.
  55. Remove the I/P assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Make sure the ambient light sensor is routed to the top of the I/P.

  1. Align the I/P in the vehicle and route all electrical harnesses through the I/P retainer.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the upper and side I/P carrier bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the I/P carrier center support nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Install the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  8. Install the upper HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts. Refer to Air Temperature Sensor Replacement - Upper Right Side and Air Temperature Sensor Replacement - Upper Left Side in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  9. Install the lower HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts. Refer to Air Temperature Sensor Replacement - Lower Left Side and Air Temperature Sensor Replacement - Lower Right Side in HVAC Systems - Automatic.

  11. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  12. Object Number: 832830  Size: SH
  13. Install the drivers knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement .

  14. Object Number: 815846  Size: SH
  15. Install the I/P air bag module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.

  16. Object Number: 832822  Size: SH
  17. Install the I/P storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .

  18. Object Number: 815903  Size: SH
  19. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  20. Object Number: 815902  Size: SH
  21. Install the rear wiper switch. Refer to Rear Window Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.

  22. Object Number: 815899  Size: SH
  23. Install the transfer case control switch module. Refer to Transfer Case Shift Control Module Replacement in Transfer Case - BW 4484.

  24. Object Number: 815914  Size: SH
  25. Install the traction control, air ride module to center stack and make electrical connections.
  26. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  27. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.

  29. Install the Onstar® module from center stack. Refer to OnStar Button Assembly Replacement in Cellular Communication.

  30. Object Number: 815858  Size: SH
  31. Install the HVAC control. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.

  33. Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .

  34. Object Number: 816329  Size: SH
  35. Install the IPC cluster and trim panel. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

  36. Object Number: 386625  Size: SH
  37. Install the diagnostic connector to the I/P.
  38. Tighten the data link connector screws.
  39. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  40. Connect brake release lever to I/P.
  41. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  42. Install the left accessory trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side .

  44. Install the right accessory trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side .

  45. Object Number: 816332  Size: SH
  46. Install the assist handle. Refer to Instrument Panel Assist Handle Replacement .

  48. Install the I/P center trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .

  49. Object Number: 816365  Size: SH
  50. Align the drivers and passenger side I/P side trim panel and snap into place.

  51. Object Number: 816362  Size: SH
  52. Install the I/P center console. Refer to Console Replacement .

  54. Install the passengers insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
