J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  2. Object Number: 798941  Size: SH
  3. Remove the evaporator tube nut (2) from the condenser (1).
  4. Remove the evaporator tube (3) from the condenser (1).

  5. Object Number: 798939  Size: SH
  6. Remove the evaporator tube nut (1) from the evaporator.
  7. Remove the evaporator tube (4) from the evaporator.
  8. Remove the evaporator tube (4) from the body retaining clip (3).
  9. Remove the evaporator tube (3) from the vehicle.
  10. Discard all of the used sealing washers.
  11. Cap all of the open connections.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new sealing washers. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the evaporator tube (4) to the body retaining clip (3).
  3. Install the evaporator tube (4) to the evaporator.

  4. Object Number: 798939  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the evaporator tube nut (1) to the evaporator.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  7. Install the evaporator tube (3) to the condenser (1).

  8. Object Number: 798941  Size: SH
  9. Install the evaporator tube nut (2) to the condenser (1).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  11. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  12. Leak test the fittings of the components using the J 39400-A .
