J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls -- 6.0 L.

  3. Object Number: 718864  Size: SH

    Important: The nuts (4) and the ferrules (3) will remain on the evaporator tube. Do not try to remove.

  4. Remove the nuts (4) from the A/C refrigerant filter (1).

  5. Object Number: 832292  Size: SH
  6. Remove the A/C refrigerant filter (5) from the evaporator tube (4).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 718864  Size: SH
  1. Coat the O-rings (2) with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  2. Install the O-rings (2) to the evaporator tube.

  3. Object Number: 832292  Size: SH
  4. Install the A/C refrigerant filter (3) to the evaporator tube (2) with the flow arrow pointing towards the evaporator.

  5. Object Number: 718864  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the nuts (4) to the A/C refrigerant filter (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  8. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  9. Leak test the fittings of the repaired or reinstalled component using the J 39400-A .
  10. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls -- 6.0 L.
