DEFINITION: The windshield washer is inoperative.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Press the windshield washer switch.

Do the windshield washers operate normally?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Do the windshield wipers operate when the windshield washer switch is pressed?

--

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor and module connector.
  2. Test the resistance from the windshield wiper switch signal circuit terminal to the low reference circuit terminal in the windshield wiper motor harness connector.
  3. Press the windshield washer switch.

Is the resistance near the specified value?

0.5 ohms

Test the following circuits for high resistance:

    • Windshield wiper switch signal circuit
    • Windshield wiper switch low reference circuit

Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs .

  1. Disconnect the washer fluid pump relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp from battery positive voltage to the washer fluid pump relay control circuit terminal in the underhood fuse block.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.
  4. Press the windshield washer switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect the washer fluid pump relay.
  2. Disconnect the washer pump connector.
  3. Connect a test lamp across the washer pump harness connector terminals.
  4. Turn the ignition ON.
  5. Press the windshield washer switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the washer fluid pump relay control circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor and module connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper wire from the washer fluid pump relay control circuit terminal in the wiper motor harness connector to a good ground.
  3. Connect a test lamp from the washer fluid pump supply voltage circuit terminal in the wiper motor harness connector to a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the washer fluid pump supply voltage circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the windshield washer pump control circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the rear window washer pump control circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the turn signal/multifunction switch switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
