Lower Liftgate Molding Appears Wavy, Loose or Falls Off (Replace Lower Liftgate Molding)

Subject:Lower Liftgate Molding Appears Wavy, Loose or Falls Off (Replace Lower Liftgate Molding)

Models:2003 HUMMER H2
Built Between VIN Breakpoints 3H106900-3H107725

Condition

Some customers may comment on a wavy or loose lower liftgate molding or that the molding is detached and/or has fallen off.

Cause

The molding may have poor adhesive retention.

Correction

Inspect the lower liftgate molding. Replace the molding if it appears loose or wavy or install if missing. The new molding has a slightly higher body height that should enable better adhesive retention. Use the following procedure and part number.

    Object Number: 1197348 Size: SH
  1. Remove the current lower liftgate molding (1).
  2. Clean the liftgate surface with either a 3M ScotchBriteâ„¢ cloth or an alcohol soaked cloth. Allow to flash dry.
  3. Remove the backing tape from the new molding.
  4. Line up the end of the molding with the liftgate. Using a wooden or rubber mallet, clip the lower lip over the hem flange and tap the molding onto the hem flange all the way along to ensure that the adhesive flange is touching the liftgate upper surface.
  5. Using the mallet handle or a suitable roller, make sure the adhesive strip is wet out by applying a vertical upward pressure to the underside of the adhesive flange along the entire length.
