Subject: | Service VME - Squeak at Rear of Vehicle |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Should a customer report a squeak in the rear area of a HUMMER H2, and through the course of your diagnosis it resembles the sound generated by styrofoam, the most probable cause is contact between the lower corners of the rear liftgate and the outer bumper seals. It can be eliminated by applying any type of anti-squeak tape to the outer ends of the liftgate lower molding on the inboard side. If the vehicle is equipped with a rear mounted spare tire carrier, it may be necessary to apply tape to the bumper seal also, after cleaning the seal well. One such brand of tape is provided by Walco Corporation at (412) 486-4400. The 0.020 inch black variety is recommended for the liftgate and the 0.005 inch clear variety is recommended for the bumper seal. As a last resort, the bumper seal can be trimmed to eliminate contact with the liftgate, but caution need be used as body color may become visible above the bumper from the rear of the vehicle.
