Removing the Tools

The equipment you will need is in a tool bag located behind and to the side of the driver's side second row seat. To remove the equipment, do the following:

  1. Fold the driver's side second row seat down. See 60/40 Split Bench Seat for more information.

  2. Object Number: 864545  Size: A3

    Turn the wing nut (A) counterclockwise to release the jack.

  3. Turn the wing nut (B), which holds the jack tool kit, counterclockwise to release it.
  4. Open the tool bag. You will find the following tools needed to remove the spare tire and flat tire:

  1. Jack Handle

  2. Jack Handle Extension (Used for Rear Flats Only)

  3. Wheel Wrench

  4. Ratchet

  5. Spanner Wrench

The equipment you will need is the rear cargo compartment on the passenger's side of the vehicle. Unlock the cover and pull it off.

You will first need to remove the tool kit/first aid kit to allow you enough room to remove the tire changing equipment.

Once removed, you will see the following tire changing equipment:

  4. Wheel Blocks Wing Nut

  5. Wheel Blocks

To remove the equipment, do the following:

  1. Unscrew the wing nut holding the wheel blocks and remove them.
  2. Unscrew the wing nut holding the jack and remove it.

  3. Object Number: 1365862  Size: B3
  4. Pull the tool bag up and out from the front retention clip.
  5. Open the tool bag. You will find the following tools needed to remove the spare tire and change a flat tire:

  3. Wheel Wrench

  4. Ratchet

Removing the Inside-Mounted Spare Tire

The spare tire and wheel blocks are stored in the rear cargo area. You will need to remove the tire cover to get to them.

  1. Spare or Flat Tire

  2. Receiver Extension (If Equipped) Not used for tire changing procedure. See "Receiver Extension" under If Your Vehicle is Stuck in Sand, Mud, Ice, or Snow .

  3. Tire Retainer Plate

  4. Nut

  5. Wheel Blocks

  1. Remove the wheel blocks from the tire retainer plate by turning the wing nut counterclockwise.

  2. Object Number: 864549  Size: B3
  3. Place the flat end of the wheel wrench through the hole in the spanner wrench.

  4. Object Number: 864522  Size: A3

    Place the end of the spanner wrench on the nut and then turn the wheel wrench counterclockwise to loosen the nut holding the tire to the carrier.

  5. Pull off the tire retainer plate and set it aside. Remove the spare tire from the wheel carrier.
  6. Put the spare tire near the flat tire.

The tools you will be using to finish changing a flat tire are the following:

Before proceeding, be sure to set the wheel blocks at the appropriate tires as shown previously.

Removing the Spare-Tire-Carrier-Mounted Spare Tire

The outside-mounted spare tire is attached to the tire carrier. To remove the spare tire, do the following:

  1. Open the tire carrier. See Tailgate for tire carrier operation.

  2. Object Number: 1365864  Size: B3
  3. Unscrew the wing nut on the back of the tire carrier.

  4. Object Number: 1365863  Size: B4
  5. Pull off the license plate holder from the spare tire.
  6. Slide the ratchet onto the wheel wrench with the DOWN mark facing you.

  7. Object Number: 1459819  Size: B3
  8. Turn the ratchet counterclockwise to loosen the wheel nuts.
  9. Remove the three wheel nuts holding the spare tire onto the tire carrier.
  10. Pull off and carefully lower the spare tire to the ground. Set it next to the flat tire.

Before proceeding, be sure to set the wheel blocks at the appropriate tires as shown previously.
