The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

SERVICE VME

This message is being issued as a precautionary measure when replacing a windshield on an H2 Hummer because of numerous repeat failures. After removing the windshield, there will be two plastic blocks visible along the lower edge of the windshield opening each located near the windshield wiper arm transmission spline. These are assembly aids used only when installing the windshield at the plant. They must stay in place so as not to open hole where they mount. However, upon installation of the replacement windshield, care must be taken to assure that the glass does not come into contact with the blocks. After applying the urethane and positioning the windshield, compress the urethane only as much as necessary assuring that the glass does not come into contact with the blocks. If contact is made with the blocks body flexing will crack the replaced windshield. Cracks along the bottom of the glass are a good indication of this. In addition, when subletting a windshield replacement, be sure to bring this to the attention of the party you are dealing with.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
