The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment on a chirp or squeal or squawk noise on a WOT (wide open throttle) 1-2 upshift. This chirp or squeal might be interpreted as a noise coming from the transmission because it occurs during the upshift. Please be sure to verify the chirp noise is not accessory drive belt related before attempting transmission repairs.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If the noise is determined to be coming from the accessory drive belt complete the current SI diagnostics for drive belt chirping, drive belt squeal, drive belt whine, or drive belt rumbling. Make repairs to the accessory drive belt as needed. Evaluate the WOT belt chirp after the repairs are completed

If the belt chirp noise is not repaired with a drive belt replacement, or reoccurs shortly after a drive belt is replaced, please complete a field product report as directed in bulletin number 02-00-89-002E.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
