Diagnostic Fault Information

Important: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

The inside rear view mirror (ISRVM) has only one voltage source for operation of all mirror functions. With the ignition in RUN all functions of the ISRVM will default to ON. The dual temperature display and rear vision indicators will be illuminated. The ISRVM receives a 12-volt signal from the body control module (BCM) indicating that the vehicle is in reverse gear. The rear vision display will then be deployed from the ISRVM providing a view to the rear of the vehicle. When the display is extended the ISRVM will supply the camera with a 12-volt power source. If a problem exists with the object detection display not deploying or if a proper video signal is not detected, the rear vision ON/OFF indicator located on the ISRVM will flash.

Circuit/System Verification

To verify system operation, use one of the two methods provided.

    • Method A. Ignition ON, with the scan tool access the BCM menu, command the back up lamps ON.
    • Method B. Park brake applied, ignition ON, foot brake applied, transmission in REVERSE.

Circuit/System Testing

Rear Vision System Always On

  1. Ignition ON, observe the back up lamps. The back up lamps should be off.
  2. If the lamps are illuminated, refer to DTC B2550 to diagnose the back up lamp circuit.
  3. Replace the inside rear view mirror (ISRVM).

No Deployment - Indicator Not Flashing

  1. Ignition ON, with the scan tool turn on the back up lamps, the display should eject (slide out).
  2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the ISRVM.
  3. Test the signal circuit to the ISRVM for 12 volts.
  4. If less than 12 volts, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
If voltage tests normal, replace the ISRVM.

No or Partial Deployment - Indicator Flashing

  1. Observe the display for proper travel. If the display fails to deploy or partially deploys and the ON/OFF indicator is flashing then the display mechanism is obstructed or damaged.
  2. Remove any obstruction to the display mechanism. If no obstruction is found then replace the mirror.

No Video - Indicator Flashing

  1. Ignition ON, with the scan tool turn on the back up lamps. The display mechanism should eject and video should be present.
  2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear view camera.
  3. Ignition ON, with the scan tool turn on the back up lamps. Test for 12 volts at the rear view camera harness connector.
  4. If the 12-volt power supply circuit does not test normal, test for 12 volts at the ISRVM.
If the 12-volt power supply circuit tests normal at the ISRVM, then repair the harness.
If the 12-volt power supply circuit does not test normal, replace the ISRVM.
If the 12-volt power supply circuit tests normal, test the video signal circuits for short to power, ground or an open/high resistance.
If the video circuits test normal, replace the rear view camera.
  5. If after replacing the rear view camera the system does not function properly, replace the ISRVM.

Poor Video Performance

Check for damaged camera bezel and/or bezel seal. Replace as necessary.

Clean camera lens prior to bezel and/or seal replacement.

Repair Instructions

Important: Always perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.

    •  Rearview Camera Replacement
    •  Control Module References for ISRVM replacement, setup, and programming.
