Did you review the Midgate Description and Operation?

Verify that the midgate latch release is inoperative.

Does the midgate latch release operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the left and right midgate latch electrical connectors.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Probe the control circuits of the left and right midgate latch electrical connectors with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  4. Activate the midgate latch release switches.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Connect a test lamp from battery voltage to the ground circuits of the midgate latch electrical connectors.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Test the latch control circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

  1. Connect the left and right midgate latch electrical connectors.
  2. Disconnect the midgate latch release switch electrical connector.
  3. Momentarily connect a fused jumper wire from release switch signal circuit to ground.

Do the latch release actuators activate?

Go to Step 7

Connect a test lamp between battery voltage and the ground circuit of the midgate latch release switch electrical connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 10

Test the release switch signal circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate midgate latch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate midgate latch release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the midgate control module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs.
