Object Detection Description and Operation Rear Vision Camera

The object detection system can help a driver determine how close an object is to the rear bumper within a predefined rearward field of view. The system is composed of a video camera located on the rear bumper, electrical harness and a 3.5 inch LCD display integral to the inside rearview mirror (ISRVM). The object detection system can be disabled by pressing and holding the rear vision ON/OFF button for 3 seconds when the ignition switch is in the ACCESSORY or RUN position. When the object detection power button is pressed the lower LED indicator to the right of the power button will turn off verifying that the system is OFF. The slide-out video feature will remain in the current ON/OFF state during each ignition cycle.

The ISRVM and rearview camera image display module requires B+ signal to enable the rear vision system. This signal is provided by the park/neutral position (PNP) switch (automatic transmission) or backup lamp switch (manual transmission) when placing the transmission in reverse. When the transmission is in the reverse, the rearview camera image display module will supply the camera with a regulated 12-volt power source and ground. The LCD display will deploy and remain deployed until the transmission is moved out of the reverse position. Once the transmission is moved out of the reverse position the display will retract. Anything preventing the display from fully extending will cause the display to retract. A shielded video signal circuit will transfer the video signal through the rearview camera image display module to the ISRVM display.

The mirror can be placed into a service mode to facilitate screen cleaning. With the ignition in the ACCY position, press and hold the rear vision power button for 5-8 seconds or until the display is deployed. The display will remain deployed for 30 seconds. Do not attempt to pull out the display as that may cause internal damage.

The object detection system has the following diagnostic capabilities:

    • The rear vision ON/OFF indicator will flash with the absence of a proper video signal
    • The rear vision ON/OFF indicator will flash when interference of the display deployment has been detected
