Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.
- Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
Important: Let the multifunction turn signal switch/SIR coil assembly hang freely after removal.
- Remove the multifunction turn signal switch/SIR coil assembly. Refer to
Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
- Remove the ignition lock cylinder case bolt and discard it.
- Remove the ignition lock cylinder case from the steering column.
- Remove and discard the steering shaft lock plate retaining ring using compressor
J 23653-SIR and adapter
J 42137 .
- Remove the following parts from the steering shaft assembly:
6.1. | Steering column tilt spring retainer |
6.2. | Steering shaft upper bearing spring |
6.3. | Steering shaft upper bearing race |
Installation Procedure
- Install the following parts onto the steering shaft assembly:
1.1. | Steering shaft upper bearing race |
1.2. | Steering shaft upper bearing spring |
1.3. | Steering column tilt spring retainer |
- Install a new steering shaft lock plate retaining ring using
J 38364 and
J 42137 .
Firmly seat the new steering shaft lock plate retaining
ring into the groove on the steering shaft.
- Install the ignition lock cylinder case.
- Install a new ignition lock cylinder case bolt.
Tighten
Tighten until the bolt head shears off .
- Install the multifunction turn signal switch/SIR coil assembly. Refer to
Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling.
