Inventory Upgrade - Transfer Case Fluid Fill

Condition
The four-wheel drive transfer case fluid fill specification has been revised to improve performance.
Upgrade
Dealers are to add DEXRON®III fluid to the transfer case.
Service Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (SI Document ID 923875).
- Determine if a blue dot is affixed to the bottom of the transfer case.
- Remove the transfer case fill plug (2).
- Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the fill hole with DEXRON®III fluid, GM P/N 12378470 (Canada P/N 10952622).
- Apply pipe sealant, GM P/N 12346004 (Canada P/N 10953480) to the threads of teh transfer case fill plug.
- Install the transfer case fill plug.
- Disconnect the speed sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the speed sensor from the transfer case.
- Add 250 ml (8.45 oz) of DEXRON®III fluid, GM P/N 12378470 (Canada P/N 10952622) to the transfer case via the speed sensor hole as shown in the illustration.
- Install the speed snesor to the top of the transfer case and connect the electrical connector.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Provide sales staff with the Owner's Manual supplement information.
| • | If the blue dot is present, lower the vehicle. The fill procedure is not required. |
| • | If there is no blue dot, proceed to step 3. The fill procedure is required. |
Tighten
Tighten the transfer case fill plug to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
Important: A hand pump (or equivalent) will be required to perform step 9.
Tighten
Tighten the speed sensor to 17 N·m
(13 lb ft).

Important: 2006 HUMMER H3 vehicles from SOP to 5GTDN136968105387 VIN range will require this Owner's Manual Supplement. Insert a copy of this Owner's Manual Supplement in the glove box Owner's Packet.
