Subject: | 2006 HUMMER H3 Audio System Information |
Based on warranty return analysis and inquiries from the HUMMER dealer service community, it has become apparent that there is some misunderstanding related to H3 radio service procedures. To help clear up matters, the following information will be helpful
when servicing the audio system when a radio replacement is required.
H3 radios are available with a base audio system, which has no amplifier or with a premium audio system (RPO UQA) powered by a Monsoon amplifier. Whenever servicing the system requires a removal and replacement of the radio, the new radio must be calibrated
to match the vehicle audio system. To properly calibrate a radio, it must first be understood what audio system the vehicle has. This can be determined by:
• | reviewing the glovebox option content label - premium audio system code is UQA. If UQA is not present, it is a base system. |
• | checking the vehicle window sticker. |
• | inquiring into the vehicle build content using the VIN. |
With knowledge of the vehicle audio system, a radio setup using a Tech®2 tool can be done on the new unit. The Tech®2 tool contains the software to correctly calibrate the radio. No file download is required for this operation. At the "Radio
Setup" screen, the Tech®2 tool will prompt with the command "Amplifier" or "Non Amplifier" for the H3 vehicle? Selecting the correct configuration completes the calibration. Perform a check of the audio system after completing
the calibration. Listen to the vehicle chime. If it is excessively lour or if the speakers are "crackling", the incorrect calibration has been used. Alternately, if the audio is very low, this is another indicator of a miscalibration.
