Subject: | Vehicle is Hard to Back Up When Steering is at a Full Turn |
Models: | 2006 Hummer H3 |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
When selecting reverse gear in 4 High and turning the steering to the full lock position Right or Left (for a parking maneuver), then accelerating normally the vehicle does not move backwards. A hard acceleration is required to move the vehicle, but this feels as though the engine is fighting to move the vehicle. This will happen because the wheels turn at a sharper angle than most other vehicles to achieve the desired turning radius. This sharp angle is what imparts drag that prevents the vehicle from backing up easily. This can happen in 4 High or 4 Low, but 4 low has more "power" to over come the issue, making it appear less noticeable.
This is a normal characteristic of the vehicle, and no repairs should be made for this concern.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
