Subject: ABS Light On Service Stability Message DTC U1651

Models:2006-2007 Hummer H3

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The ABS light is on and the SERVICE STAB SYS message is on with DTC U1651. There is no diagnostic flow chart for DTC U1651 in eSI. DTC U1651 is for communication related failures between the VSES module and Yaw Rate/Lateral and Longitudinal Accelerometer sensor. When the U1651 is set, DTC C0186 (Lateral and Longitudinal Accelerometer sensor fault) and C0196 (Yaw rate sensor fault) will be set as well.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Possible causes for DTC U1651 are:

  1. Yaw Rate/Lateral and Longitudinal Accelerometer sensor not being powered. Check the Power (circuit 441) and Ground (circuit 1151) at the sensor connector. The Yaw Rate/Lateral and Longitudinal Accelerometer sensor is mounted under driver seat.
  2. Communication circuit failures Check for continuity between Yaw Rate Sensor/Lateral and Longitudinal Accelerometer connector and VSES connector for the communication lines CAN HI (circuit 716) and CAN LO (circuit 2088). Also check to make sure that CAN HI and CAN LO are not shorted together.
  3. Yaw Rate/Lateral and Longitudinal Accelerometer sensor internal failure. If above two items checked to be good, replace the Yaw Rate/Lateral and Longitudinal Accelerometer sensor.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
