1. Brake Warning Indicator Malfunction

Circuit/System Description

The brake fluid level switch monitors the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder. When the electronic brake control module (EBCM) sees the brake fluid level switch input grounded, it sends a serial data message to the body control module (BCM) and the BCM sends a serial data message to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to turn ON the Red Brake Warning indicator.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

C0130

The EBCM detects an open in the low brake fluid circuit.

C0267

    • Low brake fluid is detected.
    • A short to ground exists on the signal circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The EBCM disables the traction control system (TCS)/dynamic rear proportion (DRP)/vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) for the duration of the ignition cycle.
    • A DIC message and/or a warning indicator may be displayed.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Verify the brake fluid is at the proper level.
  2. If the brake fluid is not at the proper level, refer to Brake Fluid Loss.
  3. Verify the scan tool EBCM Brake Fluid Level parameter is OK.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the brake fluid level switch.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool EBCM Brake Fluid Level parameter is OK.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 2 and ground. Verify the scan tool EBCM Brake Fluid Level parameter is Low.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the brake fluid level switch.

Repair Instructions
