Borg Warner 4493/4494 Transfer Case Heat Shield - keywords leak noise seal

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Please be advised that on the 2008 H3 Hummer vehicle equipped with the 5.3L V8 (RPO LH8) the transfer case is equipped with a heat shield P/N 24241777. The purpose of this heat shield is to protect the rear output seal area of the transfer case.

A service replacement transfer case will not come with this heat shield.

The repair technician will have to transfer the heat shield from the replaced t/case to the new one. The shield is held in place with three pop rivets. The tech will have to drill out the pop rivets and then install the heat shield on the new transfer case.

The three required holes for the rivets should already be in the new t/case. Only use 3/16 Aluminum pop rivets, the rivets can be obtained locally.

The ship to commerce date for these vehicles will be approximately 7/16/07.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
