| with 5.3L V8 Engine (VIN L -- RPO LH8) |
Condition
Some customers may comment on a chirp noise coming from the engine.
Cause
The chirp noise may be caused by the power steering pump pulley being misaligned.
Correction
DO NOT REPLACE THE ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT OR POWER STEERING PUMP.
Complete the following steps to align the pulley to the correct position:
- Remove the engine cover and air cleaner assembly.
- Reduce the coolant level and loosen the top radiator hose.
- Unclip the axle vent hose and A/C lines from the fan shroud.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the skid plate. Unclip the lower radiator hose from the fan shroud assembly. Unclip the upper fan shroud from the lower fan shroud.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the fan shroud to gain access to the power steering pump pulley.
- Install puller J-25034C to move the power steering pulley out 0.35 mm. The pulley should now be 0.35 mm forward in the truck and not flush with the end of the power steering pump shaft.
- Reinstall the fan shroud.
- Clip the lower radiator hose to the fan shroud.
- Reinstall the skid plate.
- Reinstall the air cleaner assembly and engine cover.
- Top off the coolant.
