Front Differential Case Disassemble With E-Locker

Disassemble Procedure

  1. Remove the differential side bearings. Refer to Differential Side Bearing Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 1306069  Size: SH

    Note: The ring gear mounting bolts have left handed threads.

  3. Remove the ring gear mounting bolts

  4. Object Number: 1306072  Size: SH
  5. Using a brass drift and a hammer, remove the ring gear from the differential carrier case.
  6. Remove the electronic locking differential coil from the carrier case. Refer to Front Electronic Locking Differential Coil Replacement.

  7. Object Number: 2063490  Size: SH
  8. Remove the pins (1) from the differential carrier case (2).

  9. Object Number: 2063481  Size: SH
  10. Remove the fasteners (1) from the differential carrier case (2).

  11. Object Number: 2063492  Size: SH
  12. Insert a screw driver in the slot on the side of the differential carrier case.

  13. Object Number: 2063496  Size: SH
  14. Using the screw driver, separate the differential carrier case (1) and (2).

  15. Object Number: 2063498  Size: SH
  16. Remove the front differential preload spring (1) from the differential carrier case (2).

  17. Object Number: 2063508  Size: SH
  18. Remove the (1) shim, locking side gear (2) and the electronic locking differential plate (3) from the differential carrier case (4).

  19. Object Number: 2063516  Size: SH
  20. Using a hammer and a long 5/32 punch, remove the roll pin (2) from the differential carrier case (2).

  21. Object Number: 2063551  Size: SH
  22. Remove the pinion shaft (4), side gears (2), thrust washers (1) from the differential carrier case (3).

  23. Object Number: 2067141  Size: SH
  24. Remove the side gear (1) and the shim (2) from the differential carrier case (3).

Front Differential Case Disassemble W/O E-Locker

  1. Remove the differential side bearings. Refer to Differential Side Bearing Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 1306069  Size: SH

    Note: The ring gear bolts have left-handed threads.

  3. Remove the ring gear bolts.
  4. Caution: Do not pry the ring gear from the differential case. Prying the ring gear from the differential case may cause damage to the ring gear and/or the differential case.


    Object Number: 1306072  Size: SH
  5. Using a brass drift and a hammer, remove the ring gear from the differential case.

  6. Object Number: 851727  Size: SH
  7. Remove the pinion shaft lock bolt.

  8. Object Number: 851733  Size: SH
  9. Remove the pinion shaft.

  10. Object Number: 680404  Size: SH

    Note: If re-using the differential pinion gears and or the differential side gears, create reference mark the top and bottom of the pinion gears and the left and right of the side gears.

  11. Remove the differential pinion gears by rolling the differential pinion gears out of the case with the pinion thrust washers.
  12. Remove the differential side gears and the side gear thrust washers.
