Engine Control Module Programming and Setup V8
The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event performed for a complete repair.
ECM Replacement
If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed:
- ECM Reprogramming--Refer to
Service Programming System (SPS).
- The CKP System Variation Learn--Refer to
Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn.
- The Throttle Learn procedure--Refer to
Throttle Learn.
- Engine Oil Life Remaining--When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
- Transmission Fluid Life Remaining--When available, use the scan tool to reset the Transmission Fluid Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
- Theft Deterrent--Refer to
Immobilizer System Component Programming.
ECM Reprogramming
• | Engine Oil Life Remaining--When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was reprogrammed. |
| Important: After programming, perform the following to avoid future misdiagnosis:
|
• | Turn the ignition OFF for 30 seconds. |
• | Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF. |
• | Use the scan tool in order to retrieve history DTCs from all modules. |
• | Clear all history DTCs. |
Setup for Component Replacement
The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.
If any of the following components are replaced, the CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to
Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn.
• | Any engine repair that disturbs the CKP sensor or its relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel |
⇒ | If the throttle body is replaced, a Throttle Learn procedure must be performed. Refer to
Throttle Learn. |
Engine Control Module Programming and Setup LLR
The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event be performed for a complete repair.
ECM Replacement
Warning: Replacement or reprogramming of the ECM, or replacement of the clutch pedal position sensor (CPPS) or clutch pedal requires that a CPPS learn procedure be performed. Failure to perform the CPPS
learn procedure may result in personal injury or damage to the vehicle or its components if the vehicle is in gear and the starter motor is accidentally engaged.
If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed:
- ECM Reprogramming--Refer to
Service Programming System (SPS).
- Clutch pedal position sensor learn--Refer to
Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn.
- Crankshaft Position (CKP) Variation Learn--Refer to
Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn for 3.7L engine.
ECM Reprogramming
If the ECM needs to be reprogrammed, refer to
Service Programming System (SPS).
Setup for Component Replacement
The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.
If any of the following components are replaced, a CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to
Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn for 3.7L engine.
• | Any engine repair that disturbs the CKP sensor or it's relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel |
