Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Apply and release the brake pedal 20 times to deplete the hydraulic brake booster accumulator reserve.
  3. Using a suitable tool, remove the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  4. Discard the brake fluid into an approved container.

  5. Release the fluid level sensor electrical connector (6) from the bracket.
  6. Remove the fluid level sensor electrical connector bracket bolt and bracket.
  7. Remove the master cylinder reservoir bolt (1).
  8. Remove the master cylinder reservoir roll pin (2).
  9. Remove the master cylinder reservoir (3).
  10. Note: 

       • The grommets for the brake master cylinder should remain in the brake master cylinder body.
       • There are 2 different size grommets. The 2 outer grommets are larger than the center grommet.

  11. Remove the grommets (4) and (5), if necessary.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1749133  Size: SH

    Note: Apply a small amount of CLEAN brake fluid to the grommets before installation.

  1. Install the grommets (4) and (5), if removed.
  2. Install the master cylinder reservoir (3).
  3. Install the master cylinder reservoir roll pin (2).
  4. Install the fluid level sensor electrical connector bracket.
  5. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Install the fluid level sensor electrical connector bracket bolt and tighten to  8 N·m (71 lb in).
  7. Install the fluid level sensor electrical connector (6) to the bracket.
  8. Install the master cylinder reservoir bolt (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  10. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling.
