J 8062 (KM-348) Valve Spring Compressor - Head Off

Disassembly Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Valve springs can be tightly compressed. Use care when removing the retainers and plugs. Personal injury could result.

  1. Remove the cylinder head with the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold attached. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement .
  2. Remove the coolant temperature sensor.

  4. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
  5. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.
  6. Remove the exhaust manifold nuts.
  7. Remove the exhaust manifold.
  8. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.
  9. Remove the exhaust manifold studs.
  10. Remove the spark plugs.

  12. Remove the intake manifold retaining nuts.
  13. Remove the intake manifold.
  14. Remove the intake manifold gasket.
  15. Remove the intake manifold studs.

  16. Object Number: 1241756  Size: SH
  17. Remove the thermostat housing mounting bolts.
  18. Remove the thermostat housing.
  19. Remove the thermostat and thermostat gasket.

  20. Object Number: 1241757  Size: SH
  21. Using the J 8062  (1), compress the valve springs.
  22. Remove the valve keys.
  23. Remove the valve spring plates.
  24. Remove the valve springs.
  25. Remove the valves.
  26. Remove the valve stem oil seals.
  27. Remove camshaft carrier alignment pins.
