Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1371852  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector.
  3. Disconnect the air intake tube from the throttle body.
  4. Disconnect the breather tube from the valve cover.

  6. Remove the air filter housing bolts.
  7. Remove the air filter housing.
  8. Remove the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  9. Remove the right front splash shield.

  10. Object Number: 1371872  Size: SH
  11. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  12. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  13. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

  14. Object Number: 1371903  Size: SH
  15. Remove the upper front timing belt cover bolts.
  16. Remove the upper front timing belt cover by prying on the two tabs located on each side of the cover.
  17. Remove the lower front timing belt cover bolts.
  18. Remove the lower front timing belt cover.
  19. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts, if equipped.
  20. Install the crankshaft pulley bolt.

  22. Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the timing mark on the crankshaft gear is aligned with the timing mark at the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.

  23. Object Number: 1371883  Size: SH
  24. Slightly loosen the coolant pump retaining bolts.
  25. Using the J 42492-A

    Note: Remove the timing belt behind the power steering pump.

  27. Remove the timing belt.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1824512  Size: SH
  1. Align the timing mark on the crankshaft gear to the timing mark on the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.

  2. Object Number: 1750851  Size: SH

    Note: Ensure that the exhaust camshaft gear dowel pin is approximately in the 11 o'clock position.

  3. Align the timing marks on the camshaft gears.
  4. Install the timing belt.

  5. Object Number: 1371883  Size: SH
  6. Rotate the coolant pump clockwise using the J 42492-A

  7. Object Number: 1371904  Size: SH
  8. Rotate the coolant pump clockwise until the adjust arm pointer of the timing belt automatic tensioner is aligned to the notch in the timing belt automatic tensioner bracket.
  9. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1371906  Size: SH
  10. Tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts.
  11. Rotate the crankshaft 2 full turns clockwise using the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  12. Loosen the coolant pump retaining bolts.
  13. Rotate the coolant pump until the adjust arm pointer of the timing belt automatic tensioner is aligned with the pointer on the timing belt automatic tensioner bracket.

  14. Object Number: 1371905  Size: SH
  15. Tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).


    Object Number: 1371903  Size: SH
  17. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  18. Install the upper and lower front timing belt cover.
  19. Install the upper and lower front timing belt cover bolts.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the upper and lower front timing belt cover bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  21. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  22. Install the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 95 N·m (70 lb ft) using a torque wrench. Using the J 45059 or the KM-470-B , tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt 30 degrees plus 15 degrees.

  24. Install the accessory drive belt, if equipped.
  25. Install the right front splash shield.
  26. Install the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

  27. Object Number: 1371852  Size: SH
  28. Install the air filter housing.
  29. Install the air filter housing bolts.
  30. Tighten
    Tighten the air filter housing bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  31. Connect the air intake tube to the throttle body.
  32. Connect the breather tube to the throttle body.
  33. Connect the IAT sensor connector.
  34. Connect the negative battery cable.
