Diagnostic Instructions
DTC Descriptor
DTC B1453 : Vehicle Speed Signal
Circuit/System Description
When the ignition switch is turned to ON, the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) will perform turn-on test to diagnose critical malfunctions within SDM itself.
The SDM continuously receives vehicle speed signal from the cluster. If driver seat belt is unbelted, the SDM gives the such alerts as warning lamp and sound according to vehicle status.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is within the normal operating voltage range.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The SDM can not receive vehicle speed signal from the cluster.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The SDM commands the air bag indicator ON.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists and the scan tool Clear DTCs function is used.

Circuit/System Testing
Note: When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.
• | The I/P wiring harness connector |
• | The SDM wiring harness connector |
- Ignition Off, wait one minute for SDM to discharge.
- Disconnect the cluster connector.
- Disconnect the SDM connector.
- Check for 0 ohms between terminal 57 of SDM and terminal A21 of the cluster.
⇒ | If resistance is not as specified, test circuit for an open or high resistance. |
- Check for infinite resistance between terminal 57 of SDM and ground.
⇒ | If resistance is not as specified, test circuit for a short to ground. |
- Check for an open or short to ground between terminal A22 of the cluster connector and terminal B of the vehicle speed sensor (manual transmission) or terminal B15 of the TCM (automatic transmission).
⇒ | If circuit tests normal, replace the cluster. |
⇒ | Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs, if DTC B1453 sets again, replace the SDM. |
