Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.
Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.
- Remove the caliper brake hose inlet fitting. Remove the ring seals.
- Disconnect the brake hose. Plug the openings in the caliper inlet and the brake hose in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination.
- Remove the caliper guide pin bolts.
- Remove the caliper.
Installation Procedure
- Ensure the slide pins are lubricated with Silicone Brake Lubricant, GM P/N 89021536, ACDelco P/N 89021537 (Canadian P/N 89021538) or equivalent.
Important: If reusing the brake caliper guide pin bolt, the threads of the brake caliper guide pin bolt and the threads of the guide pin must be free of threadlocker residue and debris prior to the application of threadlocker to
ensure proper adhesion and fastener retention.
- If reusing the brake caliper guide pin bolt, prepare the guide pin bolt and the guide pin as follows:
2.1. | Thoroughly clean the threadlocker residue from the guide pin bolt threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry. |
2.2. | Thoroughly clean the threadlocker residue from the guide pin threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry. |
- Apply high-temperature, high-strength threadlocker to 2/3 of the threaded length of the brake caliper guide pin bolt.
Ensure there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the guide pin bolt.
- Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installing the guide pin bolts.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the caliper guide pin bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts to 44 N·m (32 lb ft).
- Install the brake hose to the caliper with the fitting and the ring seals.
Tighten
Tighten the brake hose to caliper inlet fitting to 44 N·m (32 lb ft).
- Install the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
- Lower the vehicle.
Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure
to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.
- With the engine OFF, gradually apply and release the brake pedal several times in order to position the caliper pistons and the pads.
- Bleed the brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
