Removal Procedure
Warning: For safety reasons, the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) must not be repaired; the complete unit must be replaced. With the exception of the EBCM/EBTCM, no screws may be
loosened. If screws are loosened, it will not be possible to get the brake circuits leak-tight and personal injury may result.
Warning: Brake fluid may irritate eyes and skin. In case of contact, take the following actions:
• | Eye contact - rinse thoroughly with water. |
• | Skin contact - rinse with soap and water. |
• | If ingested - consult a physician immediately. |
Caution: Avoid spilling brake fluid on any of the vehicle's painted surfaces, wiring, cables or electrical connectors. Brake fluid will damage paint and electrical connections. If any fluid is spilled
on the vehicle, immediately flush the area with water to minimize the potential for damage.
Caution: To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.
- Turn the ignition to off.
- Remove the engine coolant reservoir. Refer to
Radiator Surge Tank Replacement.
- Remove the underhood fuse center.
- Clean the brake pipe fittings at the brake pressure modulator valve (BMPV) assembly.
- Disconnect the electronic brake control module (EBCM) connector (2).
- Place a shop towel under the BPMV to catch any fluid loss.
- Note the position of the brake pipes, then remove the brake pipes from the BMPV assembly (1).
- Plug the brake pipe openings.
- Remove the BPMV mounting bracket bolt (2) and nuts (3).
- Remove the BPMV and mounting bracket assembly (1).
- Remove the BPMV assembly from the mounting bracket.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the BPMV assembly into the mounting bracket. Secure with bolts and tighten to
11 N·m (8 lb ft).
- Install the BPMV and mounting bracket assembly (1). Secure with bolt (2) and nuts (3). Tighten the nuts to
10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Remove the plugs from the brake pipes and connect the brake pipes to the BPMV assembly. Tighten the brake pipe nuts to
16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Connect the EBCM connector (2).
- Install the underhood fuse center.
- Install the engine coolant reservoir. Refer to
Radiator Surge Tank Replacement.
- Bleed the brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
- Perform the
Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle. Refer to
Control Module References for programming and setup information.
