Disassembly Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  3. Remove the compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement.
  4. Remove the clutch drive assembly. Refer to Compressor Clutch Assembly Replacement.
  5. Remove the shims from the end of shaft.

  7. Remove the pulley and bearing assembly snap ring.

  8. Object Number: 1786893  Size: SH
  9. Pull the pulley and bearing assembly up with both hands to remove.

Assembly Procedure


    Object Number: 1786894  Size: SH

    Note: To prevent the risk of damage, do not use hammer to install the pulley and bearing assembly.

  1. Position the pulley and bearing assembly on the compressor squarely and precisely.
  2. Note: Listen for a distinct change of sound during installation process to make sure that it is seated properly.

  3. Press firmley on the pulley and bearing assembly to fully seat.
  4. Spin the pulley by hand to check the proper installation of pulley.

    Note: Make sure that the chamfer edge side of the snap ring is on the upper side. After assembling, squeezing is required to make sure that the smap ring retainer was assembled properly.

  6. Install the pulley and bearing assembly snap ring.

  7. Object Number: 1786896  Size: SH
  8. Determine how many shims and what type of shim to be use to make an air gap between 0.3-0.6 mm.
  9. Install the shims on the end of shaft.
  10. Install the clutch drive assembly. Refer to Compressor Clutch Assembly Replacement.
  11. Install the compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  13. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
