Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1255836 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the screws from the upper and the lower steering column cover panels.
  3. Remove the upper and the lower steering column cover panels.
  4. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  5. Remove the instrument cluster trim panel. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .
  6. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  7. Remove the turn signal switch lever. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
  8. Remove the wiper switch lever. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .

  9. Remove the steering column jacket assembly securing bolts and nuts.

  10. Remove the ignition switch retaining screw.
  11. Disconnect the wiring and remove the ignition switch.
  12. Disconnect the head amplifier connector, air bag connector, and the other connectors which are connected to steering wheel.

  13. Remove the bolt from the universal joint.
  14. Remove the steering column shaft from the universal joint.
  15. Remove the steering column assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure
  1. Position the steering column assembly in the vehicle.

    2. Object Number: 1256251 Size: SH
  2. Install the steering column shaft to the universal joint

    3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the bolt to the universal joint.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the steering column shaft securing bolt to the universal joint pinch to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  4. Install the ignition switch to the steering column.
  5. Install the ignition switch retaining screw.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition switch retaining screw to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  6. Connect the wiring to the ignition switch.
  7. Connect the head amplifier connector, air bag connector, and the other connectors which are connected to the steering wheel.

  8. Install the steering column jacket assembly to the vehicle.
  9. Install the steering column jacket assembly securing bolts and nuts.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the steering column jacket assembly securing bolts and nuts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  10. Install the instrument cluster trim panel. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .
  11. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Front Floor Console Extension Replacement - Side .
  12. Install the wiper switch lever. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .
  13. Install the turn signal switch lever. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
  14. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .

    15. Object Number: 1255836 Size: SH
  15. Install the upper and the lower steering column cover panels.
  16. Install the upper and the lower steering column cover panel screws.

    17. Tighten
    Tighten the upper and the lower steering column cover panel screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
