Circuit/System Description

The transmission control module (TCM) high side driver 1 is located inside the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly. The control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly has no seviceable parts. The high side driver 1 provides the voltage for the TCM pressure control solenoids and shift solenoids. This fault is handled inside the TCM and no external circuits are involved.

Conditions for Running the DTC

P0658

    • The engine speed is greater than 500 RPM for 5 seconds.
    • Ignition voltage is between 9.0 volts and 19.0 volts.
    • High side driver 1 is enabled.
    • DTC P0658 has not failed this ignition cycle.

P0659

DTC P0659 has not failed this ignition cycle.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

P0658

The TCM detects an internal open or short to ground in the high side driver 1 for 0.3 seconds or greater.

P0659

The TCM detects an internal short to voltage on the high side driver 1 circuit for 0.3 seconds or greater.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

P0658

    • DTC P0658 is a Type A DTC.
    • The TCM turns OFF all high side drivers.
    • The TCM turns OFF all solenoids.
    • The TCM commands the TCC OFF.
    • The TCM commands maximum line pressure.
    • the TCM freezes transmission adaptive functions.
    • The TCM allows the vehicle to operate in transmission protection mode.

P0659

DTC P0659 is a Type C DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • DTC P0658 is a Type A DTC.
    • DTC P0659 is a Type C DTC.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Clear the DTC and operate the vehicle under the conditions for running and setting the DTC.
  2. Observe the High Side Driver CKT Status parameter. The parameter should display OK.
  3. If the parameter displays Open, Short to Ground, Short to Voltage, or the DTC resets, replace the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.

    • Refer to Control Module References for control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly replacement, setup, and programming.
    • Perform the Service Fast Learn Adapts following all transmission related repairs.
