Coolant Pump Replacement Gasoline

1. Drain the engine cooling system to a level below the thermostat housing. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.



3. Loosen the hose clamp on the coolant hose at the thermostat housing and the coolant pump.
4. Disconnect the coolant hose from the thermostat housing and the coolant pump.



5. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
6. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
7. Remove the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement.



8. Remove the bracket bolts.



9. Remove the auto tensioner bolt.
10. Remove the auto tensioner.



11. Remove the coolant pump mounting bolts.
12. Remove the coolant pump.
13. Remove the coolant pump gasket.
14. Inspect the water pump body for cracks and leaks.
15. Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and the engine block.

1. Install a new gasket to the coolant pump.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

2. Secure the coolant pump to the engine block with the mounting blocks and tighten to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).



3. Install an auto tensioner with the mounting bolt and tighten the bolt to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).



4. Install the bracket.
5. Install the bracket bolts and tighten to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).



6. Install the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement.
7. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
8. Install the power steering pump.
9. Install the power steering pump bolts and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).



10. Install the power steering pump drive bolt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
11. Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.

Coolant Pump Replacement Diesel

Warning: To avoid being burned, do not remove the radiator cap or surge tank cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if radiator cap or surge tank cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot.

1. Drain the engine cooling system to a level below the thermostat housing. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
2. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement.



3. Remove the timing belt idler.
4. Remove the fuel injection pump sprocket.
5. Remove the timing belt rear cover.



6. Remove the water pump with the gasket.

1. Inspect the water pump body for cracks and leaks.
2. Inspect the water pump bearing for play or abnormal noise.
3. Inspect the water pump pulley for excessive wear. If the water pump is defective, replace the water pump as a unit.
4. Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and the engine block.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




1. Install the water pump with a new gasket and tighten the tightening bolts to 11 N·m (97.4 lb in).



2. Install the timing belt idler.
3. Install the fuel injection pump sprocket.
4. Install the timing belt rear cover.

•	Tighten the timing belt idler bolt to 52 N·m (38.4 lb ft).

•	Tighten the injection pump sprocket nut to 70 N·m (51.6 lb ft).

•	Tighten the timing belt rear cover bolts to 11 N·m (97.4 lb in).
