Assembly Procedure

    Caution: Use extreme care when removing the cylinder head to prevent any engine oil , dirt, or coolant from entering the engine. Damage to the engine could result.


    Object Number: 1376055  Size: SH
  1. Install the intake and exhaust valves, valve spring retainer, valve spring, valve key, and valve stem using the EN 46569 and the EN 47518 .

  2. Object Number: 1376057  Size: SH
  3. Make sure the correct positions for the intake and exhaust valves. The diameter of the intake valves (a) is larger than the diameter of the exhaust valves (b).

  4. Object Number: 1376058  Size: SH
  5. Install the rocker arms.
  6. Note: The front rocker arm shaft which will be installed to the timing chain side can be identified by the hole for the rocker arm spring.

  7. Install the rocker arm shafts using the EN-47614 .

  8. Object Number: 1376060  Size: SH
  9. Apply the sealant to the rocker arm shaft plugs.
  10. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  11. Install the rocker arm shaft plugs and tighten to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

    Note: The intake camshaft can be identified by the groove near the cam sprocket flange. The exhaust camshaft has no groove.

  13. Position the intake and exhaust camshafts.
  14. Note: Make sure the engraved position numbers on the camshaft caps are not mixed up. Camshaft caps should follow the numeric order when installing, intake camshaft caps 1-3-5-7-9-11-13 and exhaust camshaft caps 2-4-6-8-10-12-14.

  15. Install the camshaft caps in the sequence shown.

  16. Object Number: 1376072  Size: SH
  17. Tighten the camshaft cap bolts in the sequence shown to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  18. Object Number: 1376074  Size: SH
  19. Install the cam sprockets and tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
  20. Note: Intake and exhaust cam sprockets are identified by the engraved marks, IN for intake and EX for exhaust, respectively.

  21. Install the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement.
