DTC Descriptor
DTC B1651 : LH Side Air Bag Deployment Commanded
Circuit/System Description
When the ignition switch is turned to ON, the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) will perform turn-on test to diagnose critical malfunctions within the SDM itself.
In case of the driver side air bag inflation by side impact, the SDM maintains the warning lamp ON. The driver and passenger pretensioners, driver side module, driver side impact sensor, driver roof rail module and the SDM should be replaced.
After replacement the entire system should be checked.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The history of the air bag inflation or the belt pretensioner explosion is in the SDM.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The SDM commands ON the AIR BAG warning lamp.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists and the scan tool Clear DTCs function is used.

Circuit/System Testing
Important: When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.
• | The I/P wiring harness connector |
• | The SDM wiring harness connector |
- Ignition ON, use the scan tool to request SIR DTCs. Verify that DTC B1651 is set as current.
⇒ | If DTC B1651 was current replace the SDM. |
- Ignition ON, use the scan tool to clear the DTCs.
