Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1256216  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the harness connector that is mounted to the top of the brake fluid reservoir.
  2. Remove the brake fluid level switch by sliding it out of the reservoir. It is not necessary to drain the reservoir.

  3. Object Number: 1256217  Size: SH
  4. Remove the brake fluid switch and wire harness from the brake fluid reservoir.

  5. Object Number: 1256202  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder body.
  7. For vehicles with the manual transaxle, disconnect the clip that secures the clutch hose connection to the master cylinder and move the clip out of the way.
  8. Remove the clutch hose from the master cylinder.
  9. Plug the opening to the brake lines to prevent the loss of contamination of the fluid.

  11. Remove the master cylinder mounting nuts.
  12. Remove the master cylinder assembly.
  13. Drain the brake fluid.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1256218  Size: SH
  1. Install the master cylinder assembly with the mounting nuts and tighten to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  2. Object Number: 1256219  Size: SH
  3. Install the brake lines to the master cylinder body and tighten to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
  4. For vehicles with the manual transaxle, install the clutch hose connection to the master cylinder with the clip.

  5. Object Number: 1256217  Size: SH
  6. Install the low brake fluid level switch by pushing it into the side of the brake fluid reservoir opposite the engine.

  7. Object Number: 1256216  Size: SH
  8. Install the connector for the low brake fluid level switch by sliding it into its mount on the top of the brake fluid reservoir.
  9. Connect the brake fluid level switch to the wiring harness.
  10. Add the brake fluid.
  11. Check for leaks.
  12. Recheck the fluid level.
  13. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
  14. Bleed the clutch master cylinder, if equipped. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding.
