System Overview
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) is divided into 4 types. The
types generally define the hardware style of the IPC, such as the number/shape of
the multi-function displays (MFD) and trim.
Each type has therefore been additionally categorised in terms of the software
functionality supported by the IPC. There are two levels of functionality distinguished
as Low and High series.
A Police variant of IPC is also provided which is based on the low series, but
which incorporates additional functionality for use in a policing situation. Some
of the High series functionality are also removed in the Police model.
Low series vehicles only contain 1 MFD, where as High series vehicles contain
3 MFDs located on the IPC.
Low and High series vehicles will generally contain the same features except
the functionality will differ for the following features;
• | Trip Computer Operation and Display |
• | Customisation (Options Menu) |
The instrument panel information displays provide visual information to the
driver for a number of vehicle functions such as trip computer, audio, warnings and
reminders.
When the ignition is switched on, a vehicle system check is performed and the
status is shown on the display.
Certain IPC features will be tested in order to verify the features are working
correctly. The following occurs at key ON.
• | The air bag indicator flashes. |
• | The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) indicator illuminates briefly. |
• | The battery indicator illuminates briefly. |
• | The brake indicator illuminates briefly. |
• | The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminates briefly (not IPC controlled). |
• | The seat belt indicator will stay illuminated until the driver seat belt
is latched (not IPC controlled). |
If there are no warnings or service reminders, the display shows a series of
welcome screens. If the system check detects a problem, it displays the appropriate
warning immediately. If a warning is displayed, press the TRIP button to acknowledge
it (once for each warning). It then reverts to the original trip computer display.
• | Pressing the TRIP button any time during the system check causes the
display to jump ahead to the last trip computer screen displayed before the ignition
was last switched off. The system check continues to run in the background. |
• | To display the odometer screen, if not already displayed, press the TRIP
button until the screen appears. |
• | The transmission selector position indication is only displayed if the
vehicle is fitted with automatic transmission |
When the ignition is in the OFF position, the odometer appears on the display,
unless a service reminder is active. Active service reminders will be displayed for
10 seconds before reverting back to the odometer.
