VEHICLE OVERSPEED | Vehicle's speed is equal or has exceeded the preselected value. |
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a GMLAN message from the ECM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The engine coolant temperature gauge defaults to 60°C (cold) or below if:
• | The ECM detects a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of GMLAN communications with the ECM. |
• | The BCM detects a loss of GMLAN communications with the ECM. |
The IPC displays the fuel level as determined by the ECM. The IPC receives a GMLAN message from the ECM indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gauge defaults to empty if:
• | The ECM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of GMLAN communications with the ECM |
When the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value, the low fuel or very low fuel indicators illuminate on the centre multi-function display (MFD).
The IPC contains an odometer and trip odometer A or B. Momentarily press the TRIP button on the steering wheel in order to toggle between the odometer and the trip odometer. Press the ENTER button while the trip odometer is displayed to reset the trip odometer. The IPC calculates the distance travelled based on the GMLAN vehicle speed information from the ECM. The odometer will display 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected.
The IPC displays the selected gear position as determined by the transmission control module (TCM). The IPC receives a GMLAN message from the TCM indicating the gear position. The PRNDL display blanks if:
• | The TCM detects a malfunction in the transmission range switch circuit. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of GMLAN communications with the TCM. |
• | The vehicle has a manual transmission. |
The IPC displays the vehicle speed as determined by the ECM. The IPC calculates the kilometres based on the GMLAN vehicle speed information from the ECM. The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h if the IPC detects a loss of GMLAN communications with both the ECM.
The IPC displays the engine speed as determined by the ECM. The IPC receives a GMLAN message from the ECM indicating the engine speed. The tachometer will default to 0 RPM if:
• | The ECM detects a malfunction in the engine speed sensor circuit. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of GMLAN communications with the ECM. |
The driver information centre (DIC) displays FUEL LEVEL LOW when the IPC determines that the fuel level is less than 10 litres. The IPC receives a GMLAN message indicating the fuel level from the ECM.
The DIC displays CHECK OIL when the ECM detects a low engine oil level condition from the engine oil level sensor/switch. The IPC receives a GMLAN message indicating a low engine oil level condition.
When the Low Engine Oil Level indicator displays in the IPC or DIC due to a low engine oil level condition, make sure that the ignition is turned OFF before adding or changing the oil in the vehicle. Failure to do so may result in the Low Engine Oil Level indicator or message staying on after the engine attains the correct oil level.
The driver information center (DIC) displays OIL PRESSURE LOW STOP ENGINE when the engine control module (ECM) detects low engine oil pressure condition from the engine oil pressure (EOP) sensor/switch. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a GMLAN message requesting display of the indicator from the ECM.
Ignition On
Pressing the TRIP button any time during the system check causes the display to jump ahead to the last trip computer screen displayed before the ignition key was last switched off. The system check continues to run in the background.
Ignition Off
When the ignition is switched OFF, the odometer screen appears on the screen unless a service reminder is active. Active service reminders are displayed for 10 seconds before the odometer appears.
Warning Lamps and Reminders
The following warning lamps and reminders indications may appear on your IPC centre display (depending on the level of your vehicle).
They appear as illuminated icons, animated symbols or a combination of both.
Most warning/reminder indications are accompanied by a chime.
Alternator Warning Lamps
The alternator warning lamp illuminates for a short time when the ignition is turned on to check that the lamp is working.
If the warning lamp and Alternator animation illuminates while you are driving, it indicates that the alternator is not charging correctly. The warning lamp remains illuminated until the concern has been rectified.
Low Oil Pressure
If the Check Oil animation illuminates while you are driving, it indicates that the oil pressure or oil level is low.
The Check Oil animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The animated symbol then reverts to the original trip computer display.
Check Oil appears at the bottom of the display and remains illuminated until the concern has been rectified.
ABS Fault/Off
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) warning lamp illuminates for a short time when the ignition is switched ON to check that the lamp is working.
If the warning lamp and ABS Fault illuminate while you are driving, it indicates a malfunction of the ABS. The vehicle's brake system will still operate conventionally with the anti-lock operating disabled.
The ABS Fault animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button.
Brake Fail and Park Brake Warning
The brake fail/park brake warning lamp illuminates for a short time when the ignition is switched ON to check that the lamp is working. It also illuminates when the park brake is applied.
If the warning lamp and Brake animation illuminates while you are driving and the park brake is released fully, it indicates a fault with the brakes. Carefully stop the vehicle on the side of the road immediately. Do not proceed until you are satisfied that braking is possible or that the cause of the problem has been rectified.
The Brake animation also indicates low brake fluid. Inspect the brake fluid level. The Brake animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The warning lamp remains illuminated until the concern has been rectified.
If the Park Brake animation illuminates and a chime sounds, it indicates that you are attempting to pull away while the park brake is still applied. Release the park brake fully.
Over Temperature
If the Engine Temp Hot animation illuminates when you are driving, it indicates that the engine coolant temperature is excessively hot. Stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so. If you are in an isolated area, the vehicle can be driven at a speed of up to 80 KM/h for one hour.
The Engine Temp Hot animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The animation symbol then reverts to the original trip computer display. Temp Hot appears at the bottom of the display and remains illuminated until the concern has been rectified.
Air Bag and Seat Belt Pretensioners
The SIR warning lamp illuminates for a short time when the ignition is switched ON to check that the lamp is working.
If the SIR warning lamp and Airbag Fault animation illuminates while you are driving, it indicates that the airbag system or seat belt pretensioner system may not function correctly in an accident. The SIR warning lamp remains illuminated until the problem has been rectified. The Airbag Fault animation is displayed until the TRIP button is pressed.
The SIR warning lamp remains illuminated until the concern has been rectified.
Overspeed
Overspeed is designed to warn the driver when the vehicle's speed has exceeded a preselected speed.
Stability Control Assistance
If the Stability Ctrl Assistance animation illuminates when you are driving, it indicates that the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) has sensed that an ESP event is occurring and that the vehicle requires assistance with road grip and stability.
The Stability Ctrl Assistance animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. It then reverts to the original trip computer display. ESP Ctrl appears at the bottom of the display and remains illuminated as long as the ESP is active.
Traction Control Off
If the Traction Ctrl Off animation illuminates when you are driving and you have not switched the traction control off by pressing the switch, it indicates that the traction control system is no longer functioning.
The Traction Ctrl Off animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. It then reverts to the original trip computer display. TRAC OFF appears at the bottom of the display and remains illuminated until the concern has been rectified.
Stability Control Off
If the Stability Ctrl Off animation illuminates while you are driving and you have not switched the ESP off by pressing the switch, it indicates that the ESP system is no longer functioning.
The Stability Ctrl Off animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. It then reverts to the original trip computer display. ESP OFF appears at the bottom of the display and remains illuminated until either the ESP system has been switched back on, or the problem has been rectified.
Low Fuel
If the Low Fuel animation illuminates while you are driving, it indicates that the fuel level is low. The Low Fuel animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The trip computer displays approximately how many kilometres you can drive until the tank is empty. When the TRIP button is pressed again, the trip computer reverts to the original trip computer display.
Low Fuel appears at the bottom of the display and remains illuminated until the tank is filled above the low level.
Very Low Fuel
If the Very Low Fuel animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The trip computer displays approximately how many kilometres you can drive until the tank is empty. When the TRIP button is pressed again, the trip computer reverts to the original trip computer display.
Very Low Fuel appears at the bottom of the display and remains illuminated until the tank is filled above the low level.
Sport Shift
The automatic transmission Sport Shift animation illuminates when the transmission is operating in Sport Shift mode.
Active Select
The automatic transmission Active Select On animation illuminates when active select mode is enabled.
Service Error
If the Service Error Contact Dealer animation illuminates while you are driving, it indicates a fault in the instrument panel cluster. The Service Error animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The animated symbol then reverts to the original trip computer display.
X Service appears at the bottom of the display remains illuminated until the concern has been rectified.
Malfunction Indicator Lamp - MIL
This vehicle is fitted with an emission monitoring system. The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminates when the ignition is switched on and extinguishes shortly after the engine has started.
If the lamp and the Check Engine animation illuminate while you are driving, the emission system may require servicing. Although the vehicle may still be drivable and not require recovery. If the lamp flashes when you are driving, reduce your speed until the lamp stops flashing.
Service Vehicle Soon
If the Service Vehicle Soon animation illuminates when you are driving, it indicates a non-emissions related fault in the electronic engine management system or the automatic transmission. Although the vehicle may still be drivable, it is recommended that you reduce your driving speed and do not tow heavy loads or a heavily loaded vehicle. Have the concern addressed as soon as possible.
The Service Vehicle Soon animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The animated symbol then reverts to the original trip computer display. A small icon will appear in the display and remains illuminated until the concern has been rectified.
Service Due
The Service Due animation first appears 1000 km before a service is due, giving you time to arrange for the service to be carried out. The message is shown for 10 seconds whenever the ignition is turned ON or OFF.
Safety Mode
If the Safety Mode and Power Reduced animation's illuminate alternately while you are driving, it indicates a fault in the electronic throttle control system. Although the vehicle may still be drivable, the throttle available may be limited, resulting in reduced power. The Safety Mode and Power Reduced animation's are displayed until you press the TRIP button. They then revert to the original trip computer display.
Safety appears at the bottom of the display and remains illuminated until the concern has been rectified.
Cruise Control
The Cruise On animation illuminates when the cruise control is activated and ready for use.
Apply Brake Before Cruise
For safety reasons, the cruise control can only be activated if you have pressed the brake pedal since the ignition was switched on. The apply brake before cruise message illuminates to remind you to press the brake pedal before you can activate the cruise control.
Seat Belt Warning Lamp
The seat belt warning lamp is designed to remind vehicle occupants to fasten their seat belts. The seat belt warning lamp illuminates for a short time when the ignition is turned on to check that the lamp is working.
Additional Seat Belt Warning
If the driver's seat belt is not fastened within a certain period of time, the warning lamp flashes. The fasten seat belt animation is displayed and a chime sounds if the driver's seat belt is still not fastened when the vehicle speed reaches or exceeds 25 km/h. The warning message reverts to the original trip computer display when the vehicle's speed drops below 25 km/h. The warning lamp stops flashing once the seat belt is fastened securely. If the seat belt is unfastened while the ignition is ON, the warning and chime sequence will start again.
Low Washer Fluid
If the low washer fluid animation illuminates while you are driving, it indicates that the washer fluid level is low. Top up the washer fluid reservoir. The low washer fluid animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The animated symbol then reverts to the original trip computer display.
Low Battery Voltage
If the low battery voltage animation illuminates while you are driving, it indicates that the battery voltage level is low. The low battery voltage animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The animated symbol then reverts to the original trip computer display.
Rest Reminder
This feature reminds the driver that he or she may have been driving for too long without a break. When the ignition is switched ON, a timer starts counting. After two hours of continuous driving:
• | If the vehicle has a triple-window trip computer, the trip computer automatically switches over to the trip time on the side window and the centre display shows the rest reminder. |
• | If the vehicle has a single-window trip computer, only the centre display shows the rest reminder. |
The rest reminder icon flashes to alert the driver to rest. The rest reminder animation is displayed until you press the TRIP button. The rest reminder reappears after a further 20 minutes accompanied by a chime, unless the ignition has been turned OFF.
