Automatic Transmission
Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.
- Clean the automatic transmission flex plate in solvent.
- Dry the flex plate with compressed air.
Important: Do not attempt to repair the welded areas
that retain the ring gear to the flex plate. If any of the following conditions are
found, install a new flex plate.
- Inspect the flex plate for the following conditions:
| • | Damaged ring gear teeth (1). |
| • | Elongations of the crankshaft or torque converter bolt holes (2). |
| • | Stress cracks around the flex plate-to-crankshaft retaining bolt hole
locations (3). |
| • | Cracks between the pressing holes (4). |
| • | Welded areas that retain the ring gear onto the flex plate for cracking. |
