🢒 Wheel Cylinder Replacement
Removal Procedure
Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
Remove the brake drum and the brake shoes. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement
.
Clean dirt and foreign material from around the wheel cylinder brake line inlet, the pilot, and the bolt.
Remove the brake line from the backing plate.
Remove the wheel cylinder-to-backing plate bolt.
Gently tap out the wheel cylinder from the backing plate, using care not to damage the bleeder valve or the cap.
Plug the opening in the brake line to prevent fluid loss or contamination.
Installation Procedure
Caution:
Refer to
Fastener Caution
in the Preface section.
Install the wheel cylinder to the backing plate. Install the wheel cylinder bolt and tighten to
8 N·m (71 lb in)
.
Install the brake line to the backing plate and tighten to
16 N·m (12 lb ft)
.
Install the brake drum and the brake shoes. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement
.
Bleed the brakes. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
.
Lower the vehicle.
