Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement LHD

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS). Before applying power to the SIS make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to observe the correct installation procedures could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the centre console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  3. Important: The sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) (4) is shown with the carpet removed for illustration purposes only. Removal of the front carpet or the front seats is not necessary to service the SDM (4).

  4. Disconnect the SDM electrical connectors (1) and (2) from the SDM (4).
  5. Remove the SDM to transmission tunnel retaining nuts (5).
  6. Disconnect the SDM earth strap bolt (3).
  7. Remove the SDM (4).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1959111  Size: SH
  1. Install the SDM (4) horizontally to the transmission tunnel, making sure the arrow on the SDM toward the front of the vehicle.
  2. Connect the SDM earth strap bolt (3).
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the SDM to transmission tunnel retaining nuts (5).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Connect the SDM electrical connectors (1) and (2) from the SDM (4).
  7. Install the centre console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  8. Return the driver and the passenger seats to the original position.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  10. Important: After programming the SDM, the SDM is then locked to the vehicle and it will not be possible to swap between other vehicles.

  11. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Programming and Setup .
  12. Program the new SDM primary key into the BCM.
  13. Important: The AIR BAG indicator may remain ON after the SDM has been replaced. If the indicator remains ON after enabling the SIR system, perform the diagnostic system check and follow the steps thoroughly to ensure that the SDM is set properly.
