Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 687432  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the outer tie rod retaining nut.

  4. Object Number: 643351  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using J 24319-B .

  6. Object Number: 731562  Size: SH
  7. Remove the stabilizer shaft link lower retaining nut.
  8. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft link and washer from the lower control arm.

  9. Object Number: 744328  Size: SH
  10. Remove the shock module yoke lower mounting nut.

  11. Object Number: 743091  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the shock module yoke from the lower control arm using J 24319-B .

  13. Object Number: 744325  Size: SH
  14. Remove the lower control arm to lower control arm bracket mounting nuts.
  15. Important: Note the direction the bolts are removed for installation.

  16. Remove the lower control arm to lower control arm bracket mounting bolts.

  17. Object Number: 742730  Size: SH
  18. Remove lower ball joint retaining nut.

  19. Object Number: 752181  Size: SH
  20. Disconnect lower ball joint from steering knuckle using J 43631 .
  21. Important: Take care not to disengage the axle shaft from the transmission (4WD Only).

  22. Pivot the the lower control arm outward and downward in order to disconnect the lower control arm from the lower control arm bracket.
  23. Remove the lower control arm from the steering knuckle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the lower control arm to the steering knuckle.
  2. Important: Take care not to disengage the axle shaft from the transmission.

  3. Pivot the the lower control arm outward and upward in order to connect the lower control arm to the lower control arm bracket.
  4. Install the lower control arm to the lower control arm bracket.
  5. Install the lower control arm to lower control arm bracket mounting bolts.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: Ensure that the lower control arm is parellel to the lower control arm bracket during the installation and tightening of the lower control arm mounting bolts and nuts. This will ensure correct alignment of the lower control arm bushings.

  7. Install the lower control arm to lower control arm bracket mounting nuts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  9. Connect the shock module yoke to the lower control arm.
  10. Install the shock module yoke lower mounting nut.

  11. Object Number: 731562  Size: SH

    Important: There is a washer between the stabilizer shaft link and the lower control arm made of harded steel and has a felt inner liner. Only replace this washer with an identical washer, standard washers should not be used.

  12. Install the stabilizer shaft link and washer to the lower control arm.
  13. Install the stabilizer shaft link retaining nut.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  15. Install the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
  16. Install the outer tie rod retaining nut.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  18. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Check teh front wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in Wheel alignment.
