Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Inoperative no relay

Did you perform the retained accessory power (RAP) diagnostic system check?

Test the following circuits of the BCM for an open or a short to ground:

    • Battery input voltage
    • Ignition input voltage
    • Ignition output voltage

Refer to the following:

    •  Body Control System Schematics in Body Control Systems for schematics
    •  Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems
    •  Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems

Did you find and correct condition?

System OK

Go to Step 3

  1. Connect a scan tool.
  2. With the scan tool, observe all door jamb/liftgate switches.
  3. Open and close each door.

Does the scan tool display change from active to inactive?

Go to Step 4

Enable RAP Power Mode. Is RAP voltage present at the BCM RAP power output?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Inspect for poor connections or terminal damage at the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 7

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Test the following circuits of the bodycontrol module (BCM) for an open or a short to ground:

    • Battery Input Voltage
    • Battery Output voltage
    • Ignition input voltage
    • Ignition output voltage

    •  Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems
    •  Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems

Did you find and correct condition?

Go to Step 13

  1. Connect a scan tool.
  2. With the scan tool, observe all door jamb/liftgate switches.
  3. Open and close each door.

Does the scan tool display change from active to inactive?

Go to Step 4

Enable RAP power mode.

The radio should operate during the RAP power mode via a class 2 signal from the BCM.

Does the radio operate during the 10 minute RAP time period?

Go to Step 5

With RAP power mode enabled, test for battery voltage at the control circuit of the RAP relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is battery voltage present?

Go to Step 6

Test for battery voltage at the supply side of the RAP relay contacts.

Did you locate and repair the fault?

Go to Step 13

With RAP power mode enabled, test for a battery voltage supply output, after the relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 13

Important: If the BCM has no output at the RAP control terminal test the complete external circuit for a short to ground before replacing parts.

  1. Remove the terminal from the BCM harness connector that contains the RAP relay control circuit.
  2. Enable RAP Power Mode.
  3. Test the RAP relay control circuit at the BCM for voltage.

Is there voltage at the RAP control output on the BCM?

Go to Step 9

Test for a short to ground or an open circuit in the RAP relay control circuit from the BCM to the RAP relay socket. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Replace the RAP relay.

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 13

Inspect for poor connections or terminal damage at the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
