Steering Knuckle Replacement 4WD
Tools Required

Removal Procedure
- Remove the tire and wheel center cap.
- Remove the drive axle nut.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the wheel hub and bearing. Refer to
Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement
.
- Remove the outer tie rod retaining nut.
- Disconnect the outer tie
rod from the steering knuckle using J 24319-B
.
- Remove the brake hose bracket retaining bolts.
- Remove the brake hose bracket from the steering knuckle.
- Remove the upper control arm to the steering
knuckle pinch bolt and nut.
- Disconnect the upper control arm from the steering knuckle.
- Remove the lower ball joint retaining nut.
- Remove the steering knuckle from the lower control
arm using J 43631
.
- Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the steering knuckle to the lower control
arm.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the lower
ball joint retaining nut.
Tighten
Tighten the lower ball joint retaining nut to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).
- Connect the upper control arm to the steering
knuckle.
- Install upper control arm pinch bolt and nut.
Tighten
Tighten the upper control arm pinch bolt to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Install the brake hose bracket to the steering
knuckle.
- Install the brake hose bracket retaining bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the brake hose bracket retaining bolts to 10 N·m
(7 lb ft).
- Install the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
- Install the new outer tie rod retaining nut.
Tighten
Tighten the outer tie rod retaining nut to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
- Install the wheel hub and bearing. Refer to
Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement
.
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the drive axle nut.
Tighten
Tighten the drive axle nut to 140 N·m (103 lb ft).
- Adjust the front toe. Refer to
Front Toe Adjustment
in Wheel Alignment.
Steering Knuckle Replacement 2WD
Tools Required

Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the wheel hub and bearing. Refer to
Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement
.
- Remove the outer tie rod retaining nut.
- Disconnect the outer tie
rod from the steering knuckle using J 24319-B
.
- Remove the brake hose bracket retaining bolts.
- Remove the brake hose bracket from the steering knuckle.
- Disconnect the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring
harness bracket from the steering knuckle.
- Remove the upper control arm to the steering
knuckle pinch bolt and nut.
- Disconnect the upper control arm from the steering knuckle.
- Remove the lower ball joint retaining nut.
- Remove the steering knuckle from the lower control
arm using J 43631
.
- Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the steering knuckle to the lower control
arm.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring

Tighten the lower ball joint retaining nut to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

- Install upper control arm pinch bolt and nut.
Tighten
Tighten the upper control arm pinch bolt to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Connect the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness
bracket to the steering knuckle.
- Install the brake hose bracket to the steering
knuckle.
- Install the brake hose bracket retaining bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the brake hose bracket retaining bolts to 10 N·m
(7 lb ft).
- Install the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
- Install the new outer tie rod retaining nut.
Tighten
Tighten the outer tie rod retaining nut to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
- Install the wheel hub and bearing. Refer to
Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement
.
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the front toe. Refer to
Front Toe Adjustment
in Wheel Alignment.
